Account Features

Bookshelves

This allows you to keep track of which books within each series you own. First choose a series from the dropdown menu. When you see the list of books in the series, check off the ones you own by clicking on the checkbox to the left of each book title. When you're done, make sure to click on "Save Changes" to save the list to your account.

A related feature that will be added in the future is an automatic link to find where you can purchase the missing books in a series if you own a partial series and want to complete the set.

Readers

You can save a list of your children or students (or both) to keep track of their current reading level and reading progress.

Each reader's birthdate and current reading level are both optional, but if they are entered, the website will be able to calculate (or estimate, in the case of a partial birthdate) his or her age. If we know the age and/or current reading level of the reader, there will be a direct link to search for series for the given age/reading level combination. Look for that link near the bottom of the web page next to the "Save Changes" button.

If you'd like to record the exact or partial date when the reading level assessment was done, you can do so by selecting the date using the dropdown boxes, but it is optional.

Reading Log

Use the Reading Log to keep track of which books within each series a reader has read. First choose a reader and then a series from the dropdown menus. When you see the list of books in the series displayed, check off the ones already read by clicking on the checkbox to the left of the book title.

If you'd like to record the exact or partial date each book was read, you can do so by selecting the date using the dropdown boxes, but it is optional.

When you're done, make sure to click on "Save Changes" to save the reading log to your account.

Shared Reading List

If you've marked on the Reading Log which books in a series a child/student has read, you can share the list with, say, grandparents asking for a birthday wish list or a babysitter you might send to the library to pick up books for the child.

On the Reading Log page where you mark which books have been read, near the bottom of the page will be a link you can share with others (by copying the link and sending it in an email, text, or any social media message). The person who receives the link can use it without having an account on KidsBookSeries.com. In other words, anyone who gets the link will be able to access the child's reading list on the website.

If you share a link from the Reading Log page when a specific book series is selected and displayed there, the shared link will be specific for that particular series, though you could still click to switch to other series once you're on the Shared Reading List page.

The reader's name will be displayed on the shared reading list, but not the reader's birthdate or reading level information. The name is included on the page in order not to create confusion in case there are multiple children in the same household. Feel free to follow the link to see what exactly is displayed on the shared list before giving out the link.

Request Book Series

If you have an account with us, you can request a series addition directly on the website rather than going through the trouble of composing and sending us an email request.

Whenever you're logged in, at the bottom of the series list page, the search results page, and the author pages, you'll see a series request form you can fill out to easily request a book series to be added to the website.

There's a box you can check off if you want us to notify you by email once the requested series has been added to the website.

User Settings

Having a user account will also allow the website to save your user settings so that you don't need to select them repeatedly. For example, if you never use audiobooks, you might want to hide those from the book page when you look at available editions for each book. With a user account, you'll only need to do this once and the website will remember not to show the audiobooks the next time you come back to the website and log back into your account.
